QOTW... Do you Melt your Butter??

This week's Question of the Week is...

When baking cookies or whatever
and it calls for Butter...

Do you melt it in the microwave?

I always melt it (at least partially) in the microwave.
In talking to my SIL's this weekend they said
they never do and never had...

It just got me thinking am I the minority??
Should I not be doing this???

Leave a comment and let me know
what you do!!!

I always melt mine in the microwave. I can't think of any reason not to.

I NEVER melt mine! Your SIL's must be really smart!!!!! I almost always know in advance that I'm baking so I get it out ahead of time and let it soften on the counter. It doesn't take long and think of my energy savings....I'm not using my microwave at all. (cause I'm sure that 30 seconds costs alot!) Also I'm not having to wash a container that I melted butter in! I throw my softened butter in the bowl that everything goes in! Hey double savings!!!!! Great Question!

Only if the recipe specifically calls for melted butter. Otherwise I sit it on the counter and let it come to room temperature and use it then

I always soften mine in the microwave. Leave the stick right in the wrapper and microwave 20 seconds on defrost. It softens it perfectly. I see no reason not to.

I know Gen, My SIL's are very smart... thus the fact that I'm learning and the questions arise!!!!!!

I think my problem would be the planning part. I wouldn't be able to remember to set it out to soften it up. you know me right!!!

((((I hope the question didn't offend you!!)))

Roxanne, Really just leave it in the wrapper... now we're talking. No extra bowl to wash AND I don't have to remember to set it out!! Great idea, I'm gonna try that!

I try to use my microwave as little as possible... because of the health benefits (or lack thereof...).

You are not alone, I melt it partially in the micro also because I am a bozo half the time and forget to take the butter out and allow ample time to soften on it's own.

LOL! Megan you're too funny! Of course you didn't offend me, you should know I'm almost impossible to offend! (I hope I didn't come off as offended, wasn't my intention!)

i don't melt mine i sit it out before hand. if your butter is too soft or liquid then your cookies will spread and be flatter. sometimes depending on the type of cookie i am making i leave mine a little cold or will chill my dough so it is firm enough not to spread too much!!

I only melt it if the recipe says to.
Otherwise my wonderful over-the-range microwave my husband bought for me has a handy "soften" button specifically to soften butter. I just push that button then the number of sticks and then start.
Now I can no longer use the excuse that the butter was not soft enough to make him more cookies anymore;-)
