Weekly Groceries...

Nothing exciting this week...
I felt my table was bare!
I got all this plus 5- 12 packs of Mt. Dew
(hubby's habit -- pop not shown) for
$50.97
Not bad... but not great either...
I spent $27.09 at Meijer for 20 items
and $23.88 at Kroger for 23 items
***
Total was $50.97 for 43 items or $1.18 per item...blah
***
We had just had a storm the night before I went. Kroger lost power and had to clear out their entire yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream cooler. ((Guess I won't be getting any manager's specials in that department for awhile since they're starting fresh!)) They only had limited lights in the store, It felt a little weird walking in there. They were also out of several items I was planning to get at Meijer. And I had 4 kiddos with me, it just wasn't a good trip... ahh well you'll have that I guess
***
But anyway I ended up with about 4-5 rainchecks (that I bothered getting) and I'll get the free stuff later.
How'd your week go... better than mine????
Have a great weekend!!!!

Camp Food -- Homemade Icecream!

Before I tell you the recipe, know that this is NOT a cheap or frugel thing to make...
But It is SOOOOO GOOOOD!!!
It's also not only for camping! You can make it anywhere!
First you have to have an Icecream Maker. We were fortunte enough to inherit my sister's because they never used it! (Thanks Bill and Brooke!!!)
***
The Basic Recipe
from here you can add other flavors..
4 cups half and half
2-4 cups whipping cream
(I have used 2 cups and 4 cups and it works both ways)
2 -14 oz. cans sweetened condensed milk
2-4 tsp. vanilla
------
If you want chocolate add 2 cups chocolate syrup
------
add milk to fill line on the maker
Put the container in the maker as your instructions say.
Add ice and icecream salt in layers.
Turn it on. Continue adding salt and ice as needed.
When the machine turns off, unplug it cuz it's DONE!!!
Enjoy!
****
I say this is not cheap or frugel because it makes
4 qt. of icecream (1 gallon) and costs about
$20. for the ingred., ice, and salt
OUCH!!!!
****
Anyone ever made homemade icecream??
What's your favorite recipe??

Things I Love Thursday

I love my Rhododendron Bush
it's right outside my front door.
I assume it's probably as old as the house around 20-30 years old!
This time of year it's sooo pretty!

The problem is I haven't taken care of it. (I know slap my wrist!!)
I've lived here about 4 years. This year its really got some bad spots on it. I'm not sure if it's from bugs, frost, or something else.
***
Any Ideas???
I'm sure I could do some research online but thought maybe someone had some great insights for me!!
So let me hear it, anyone else have a
Rhododendron bush and know how to take care of it???

1 Timothy Chapter 1

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.

Camp Food -- Pudgy Pies!

I would have to say that pudgy pie makers
are one of the best camping inventions ever made!!
You can do SOOO much with them.
If you camp and don't have several of these....
Run and get some!
(Sorry this pic is poor quality)
Okay now that everyone has a pudgy pie maker!
Here are 2 DELICIOUS Things to fill them with!
****
This is my Daughters Favorite (She's a Choc-a-holic).
First Spray the Pudgy Maker with Cooking spray. Put a piece of bread on each side. On one piece add chocolate chips and marshmallows. (Some spread peanut butter on the bread first, this is also good). It should look something like the above pic.
Close up the maker and stick it in the coals.
It will only take a few minutes on each side depending on how hot your fire is! Just keep checking it... No one likes burnt toast!!!
It's done when it's lightly toasted!

When it's done slide it carefully onto the plate.
Do not use styrofoam unless you like melted styrofoam on your pie! Paper is the way to go. When you get it successfully onto a plate slather it with powdered sugar and whip cream or even better ICECREAM!!!
Yes I LOVE ICECREAM!! (Just ask anyone who knows me!)
***
Enjoy an awesome pie around the campfire!

For those of us that arn't choc-o-holics....
--Spray the makers
--Put bread on each side
-- Fill with your favorite pie filling.
The one above is with my MIL's famous
Homemade Black Raspberry filling (made from Rasp. they grow)
-- Close up the maker
-- Put in hot coals for several minutes rotating
-- Carefully put on paper plate
-- Slather with powdered sugar and whip cream, or of course ICECREAM!!
---
Be creative -- anything goes in these.
Think of your favorite ingredients and go for it!
You really can't mess it up
****
If you've had these,
what's your favorite thing(s) to put in them??

Ozark Candle Review and Giveaway

Since I love Candles I was so excited for the opportunity to try Ozark Scents candles!
She graciously sent me a candle of my scent choice.
***
I had a terrible time choosing out of the 105 choices. But I finally settled on Strawberry Shortcake. My other top choices were Vanilla Sugar Cookie, Oatmeal Cookie Crunch, Mango Mandarin, Coco Mocha, Cucumber Melon, Blueberry Muffins, and so many more.
***
Here's one to make you smile! She makes one called "Monkey Farts" Too Funny! No idea what that one smells like... But I do think Amy seems like a fun person with a great company!!
***
I just looked it up seems "Monkey Farts" is a best seller! The fragrance is
"Bananas, pineapple, kiwi, strawberries, you name it!! This one is a mixed tropical fruit basket!! It also has a hint of vanilla. Very Sweet!!"
Actually sounds really good when you put it like that!!!
I loved the smell of my new candle!!
The first time I burned it about 4 hours. It burned evenly across the top and left no residue on the sides of the jars. It also burned clean with no black smoke or soot! It was perfect with a great strawberry scent, I highly recommend her candles!
***
I received the soy blend candle which means it contains soy wax, food grade, paraffin, and beeswax. This mixture gives it better color and scent. It still burns clean so you get the best of both worlds. In the Soy Blend she has 105 scent choices!
**
The other kind she makes is 100% pure soy wax. This one also burns clean. It's not as hot as paraffin and it cleans up easier if spilled. Great with kids or pets that could knock it over. She makes the same 105 scent choices in the 100% soy candles!

In His Word Wednesday -- The Coming

Mark Chapter 13 Verses 32-34
No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven,
nor the Son, but only the Father.
Be on guard! Be alert!
You do not know when that time will come. It's like a man going away; He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.

It's exciting to know that Christ could come for us at any time!!!

Camping Food - Foil Dinners

This is actually a recipe from Country Bob's Cookbook.
We always just call them "foil dinners" but this book calls this recipe
"Camping Silver Treasure Chests"! sounds inviting to me!!
They were Delicious!!

Needed...
Ground beef (we used sausage)
onion slices (we omit this!)
Fresh carrots - slices to cook better
Potato Slices - slice thin
Butter
salt and pepper to taste
1 head of cabbage
****
Prepare as many as needed.
Place 1 meat patty, several carrots, potato slices on a piece of Cabbage on large heavy duty foil (I use regular and double wrap them). Add a pat of butter, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and top with 1 1/2 Tablespoons
Country Bob's sauce.
**
We use cabbage pieces above and below the food to prevent any burning!
Works awesome!
**
Bring the edges of the foil together and seal tightly. Place on hot coals or on a grill over hot coals. Cook 20-30 minutes on each side or until cooked through. Packets can also be baked in the oven. Vary the veggies as you like!
***
These were Really Good!!! Next time I think we'll add Mushrooms!
Anyone else ever tried these?
What do you like to put in them??
Be sure to check back daily this week for more yummy camping food!

30 Day Challenge ... Check in

So the 30 day challenge is now over! How did everyone do???
***
I must admit I did very well until Memorial Day Weekend hit! I'm blaming it on the holiday and camping! You can't hardly expect to do exercising in the camper! Although I should have after eating all that yummy food!
***
So I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things... I'm not sure 30 days made it a habit but it definitely was a good start! 15 minutes shouldn't be that hard to find but sometimes it just is!
**
I'm looking forward to a little warmer weather so we can maybe get in our pool, it's such good exercise! We finally got the cover off and plenty of chemicals in it. Within a couple days I think we could swim... that is if the weather would ever get above 72 degrees!!
Anyone else ready to do some swimming???
