This is actually a recipe from Country Bob's Cookbook.
We always just call them "foil dinners" but this book calls this recipe
"Camping Silver Treasure Chests"! sounds inviting to me!!
They were Delicious!!
Needed...
Ground beef (we used sausage)
onion slices (we omit this!)
Fresh carrots - slices to cook better
Potato Slices - slice thin
Butter
salt and pepper to taste
1 head of cabbage
****
Prepare as many as needed.
Place 1 meat patty, several carrots, potato slices on a piece of Cabbage on large heavy duty foil (I use regular and double wrap them). Add a pat of butter, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and top with 1 1/2 Tablespoons
Country Bob's sauce.
**
We use cabbage pieces above and below the food to prevent any burning!
Works awesome!
**
Bring the edges of the foil together and seal tightly. Place on hot coals or on a grill over hot coals. Cook 20-30 minutes on each side or until cooked through. Packets can also be baked in the oven. Vary the veggies as you like!

These were Really Good!!! Next time I think we'll add Mushrooms!
Anyone else ever tried these?
What do you like to put in them??

Awesome! Camping is so much fun hope you have a blast!!
Look for more camping recipes all week! Including some really yummy dessert recipes using pudgy pie makers!
When we went camping as children, my mom and dad would make something similar. My immediate family doesn't camp much these days, but I still make them in the oven. We use ground beef patties, sliced potatoes, pintos, and corn. Sometimes I have switched up the pintos for a can of green beans. It brings back wonderful memories of my childhood days when I make them.
Oh my gosh! This sounds so great! I love it!
I have never thought of putting cabbage leaves in a foil dinner...what a great idea! These sound really tasty, too.
We make something similar, adding mushrooms, cheese like velveeta or shredded cheese and seasoning and sometimes use sweet potatoes or red potatoes. We also slice carrots in foil with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon and that is awesome or apples with the same for a dessert and put a marshmellow on top after it is done, yum!
yummm great ideas Val!!
thanks!!
great idea. We are going camping the weekend after 4th of July.
Do you think I can premake these, pop them in the cooler and then make them for dinner when we get to our campsite?
Thanks
